Home Reading: Home Reading is a very important component in the partnership between home and school. Your child is expected to read everyday for 15-20 minutes. Due to COVID this year we will be doing an online home reading program. Please read the package that was sent home with your child. In that package there is everything you need to know about home reading. I understand that many students have extra curricular activities and that some nights home reading will not get done and that is fine. Tips for helping your child as they continue their journey as readers:
.) Thinker stinker: What would make sense? This is the most important tool. We read to understand and get information, therefore always ask your child what would make sense in the story.
.) Eagle Eye: Use the pictures for clues. Don't hide them. Pictures help students decode.
.) Lips the Fish: Get your mouth ready for the sound. Sound out the word and it just may pop out.
.) Stretchy Snake: Hear the sounds! Stretch it out.
.) Chunky Monkey: Look for parts you know. Break apart the words into smaller words.
.) Tryin Lion: Go back an try again. Re-read to get more information from the text.
